Police Intimidation Charges in Hunt County

GREENVILLE –  The organizer of a protest rally in front of the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department building in Greenville Saturday night charges police were intentionally intimidating with an overreach of police force, guarding a protest with a couple of dozen citizens attending.

Dr. Jeff Hood says Hunt County officials had the SWAT team out in full force, snipers armed with automatic weapons on area rooftops, and used drones to take photographs of all protesters, including those of families with children.

Protesters believe 23 year old Brandon Gonzalez is innocent of capital murder charges.  Gonzalez is held on one million dollars bond and charged in the shooting deaths of two men and injuries to 14 additional people at a homecoming party near Greenville last weekend.

Hood says he believes a reported sole confidential informant that’s said to have identified Gonzalez as the shooter was incorrect, and that protesters believe Gonzalez is innocent of the capital murder charges he faces.  Gonzalez is held on one million dollars bond.

Two men died of gunshots; 14 other people were injured in the melee.  Hunt County officials have reported witnesses being unwilling to talk and cited “non cooperation” with authorities before announcing one witness had identified Gonzalez, and then charging Gonzalez with those shootings.

Gonzalez maintains his innocence and says he was outside the venue at the time of the shooting
