Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke Drops Out of Presidential Race

(WBAP/KLIF) – Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke announced Friday that he has pulled out of the Democratic Presidential race. O’Rourke said his decision is in the best interest of the Democratic party.

The El Paso native made the announcement public on social media, saying that though it’s difficult to accept, it is clear to him that his campaign does not have the means to move forward successfully. He said his service to the country won’t be as a candidate or as the nominee.

“Acknowledging this now is in the best interests of those in the campaign,” O’Rourke said. “It is in the best interests of this party as we seek to unify around a nominee; and it is in the best interests of the country.”

He referred to others in his campaign saying his decision to pull out of the race is in their best interest and in the best interest of the country as Democrats  look to unify around a nominee.

“We will work to ensure that the Democratic nominee is successful in defeating Donald Trump in 2020,” said O’Rourke. “I can tell you firsthand from having the chance to know the candidates, we will be well served by any one of them, and I’m going to be proud to support whoever that nominee is. And proud to call them President in January 2021, because they will win.”

O’Rourke ended his post by addressing supporters saying he’s confident he’ll see them down the road, but didn’t clarify in what capacity.
