DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The murder trial of former Dallas Police officer Amber Guyger continued Monday. Guyger told police last September that she shot and killed Botham Jean after mistaking his apartment for her own.
Proceedings began Monday with Judge Tammy Kemp hearing from prosecution and defense lawyers about over the jury charge it will receive before they begin deliberating. The defense rested after 10:30 a.m. followed by closing arguments.

The Judge has sent the jury to the hotel for the night. Deliberations will continue at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The jury was still deliberating late Monday afternoon.
Several Dallas activists said Monday that if anyone wishes to protest the verdict once it its, they ask that it be done peacefully.
A jury can convict Guyger of Murder which brings 5 to 99 years in prison, or Manslaughter which could bring 2 to 20 years.
It’s unclear on how long the jury will deliberate.

The jury in the Amber Guyger Murder trial will begin deliberations after lunch Monday.
Closing arguments were made Monday morning by the defense and prosecution. The defense claims Guyger was acting in self defense with the belief she was in her apartment. Her lawyers say Guyger was in fear for her life when she shot Jean.
The prosecution claims Guyger should never have fired her weapon and called for backup.

On Saturday, Day 6 of the trial testimony was not in the presence of the jury. A forensic expert spoke about an officer’s state of mind in a burglary scenario.

When the jury entered the room, Texas Ranger David Armstrong took the stand. He said an officer in a stressful situation as Guyger described could experience tunnel vision.
After Armstrong’s testimony the Judge ended court for the day.
