DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- A Dallas judge has ruled that four Fort Worth city officials will be questioned and reveal documents that were allegedly deleted in the case against Former Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald.
The city first appealed this request stating inconvenience of time and location.
Fitzgerald’s Attorney Stephen Kennedy says the city fired Fitzgerald while he was investigating city hall corruption and is now covering it up. A motion filed by Fitzgerald’s Kennedy states he was fired just an hour before a scheduled meeting with FBI about corruption in city hall and had a statement from a city employee claiming the city destroyed digital data. He said the first appeal indicated that they were stalling.
City Manager David Cooke, Assistant City Manager Jay Chapa and Fort Worth Police Association President Manny Ramirez and City Representative must be questioned and show documents by September 16th.
“We feel these documents will only help our case so this is one step closer to getting Fitzgerald back in uniform and reinstated as Police Chief in the City of Fort Worth,” said Kennedy. “This is a big victory for Dr. Fitzgerald,” he said.
Kennedy believes these documents will help clear Fitzgerald’s name.
