Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas County judge has denied a request for a retrial for Wesley Mathews, who was sentenced to life in prison for the 2017 death of his 3-year old adopted daughter Sherin.
Lawyers for Mathews had argued, among other things, that that graphic photos presented in the punishment phase of the trial were biased; that said, they are not surprised by the decision.
Mathews had reported the youngster missing in September 2017… her body was found in a culvert weeks later. During the investigation Mathews gave conflicting information to police.
Lawyers will now move forward to appeal Mathews’ life sentence.
Mathews’ wife Sini was initially charged and jailed for child abandonment; her charges were eventually dropped.
