Governor Abbott Signs Directive to Speed Up Wait Times at Driver’s License Offices

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott is taking action to speed up wait times at driver’s license offices across the state.

Texans at some DMV locations in North Texas and across the state have been subjected to hours long wait times this summer. It’s an issue Governor Abbott said Monday was addressed last legislative session.

“The Texas Legislature heard you loud and clear,” said Governor Abbott in a video posted to Twitter. “You are tired of wasting your time standing in long lines just to get your driver’s license.”

Lawmakers approved $212 million to hire 762 new employees and to fund at least two new license centers. The funding will go into effect September 1, but the Governor said in the video that he sent a Directive to DPS this week ordering immediate action to shorten the lines.
