BAYTOWN (WBAP/KLIF) – Dozens of people suffered minor injuries when a massive fire broke out Wednesday at an ExxonMobil plant in Baytown, Texas.
The fire is the most recent in a string of chemical plant fires outside Houston.
“37 people with non-life threatening injuries were treated for injuries,” said Plant Manager Jason Duncan. “All of which were minor in nature.”
According to Duncan, the unit at the plant that exploded contained propane and other hydrocarbons. An exact cause isn’t clear.
“We did have a loss of containment and a fire and explosion,” said Duncan. “We do not know what the cause of that incident is.”
With chemical plant fires earlier this year in nearby Crosby and Deer Park, Texas, some residents are concerned they’re seeing a trend. Duncan said crews will work diligently to find out what happened and share their findings with the industry.
