State Senator Royce West Announces his Candidacy for U.S. Senate

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- A large crowd came to the Event Center in Dallas for State Senator Royce West’s announcement that he is joining the race for a U.S. Senate Seat.  “I believe that I’m ready…I think I’ve demonstrated over the last 26 years that I have been a true servant of the people and I have something to offer for this country,” he said.

West is joining a crowded Democratic Primary in the race to unseat Republican Senator John Cornyn.

He said this primary is going to cost a lot and will need fundraising but he is willing to work hard.

If elected, West said some of his goals are to work on civility in Washington, work on affordable universal care and to continue to protect women’s rights.

Another thing West wants to implement is 14 years of free public education instead of 12. “We need to have 14 years to make certain that students are at least able to get an Associates Degree or some kind of certificate to work.. we shouldn’t continue to burden students with all the debt and expect them to be successful,” West said.

West says he wants to make certain he can live up to the things Lyndon Baines Johnson did for Texas and take us to the next level. He talked about his commitment to sit down with people across the aisle and work together.
