Plano, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – In an exclusive interview with the Dallas Morning News, the biological parents of Clyde say they believe he wanted to be killed by police.
Clyde’s father, Paul Clyde, said that he had no idea why his son shot up the federal building:
“I ultimately think he didn’t want to hurt anybody, adding that he’s a good shooter and that he believes his son “went down there purely for suicide by cop.”
Clyde’s mother, Nubia Brede Solis said that her son had been in a mental institution for two weeks, several months before he was discharged from the army in 2017.
Recalling the viral photo of their son in combat gear outside the federal building Paul Clyde said:
“It’s not him. there is nothing in those eyes. I know it’s him. It’s just like a blank stare. It’s not my boy.”
Clyde’s mother said it looked like her son was “lost in space.”
Brian Isaack Clyde was killed in a shootout with federal agents after showing up heavily armed outside the Earle Cabell Federal Building Monday morning.
A motive for the shooting still hasn’t been found. Read more here.
Meantime, the stepmother of the accused gunman from Monday’s shooting in downtown Dallas says she hardly recognized the man seen on video firing several rounds into the federal courthouse.
Heather Clyde tells WFAA she is thankful for the law enforcement officers at the scene.
“We’re so grateful no one was hurt or killed, that would have been a whole other realm of hell.”
