(WBAP/KLIF) – The last day to protest property tax appraisals is quickly approaching.
Rising home values in North Texas brings higher appraisals, and as a result more expensive property taxes. But University of Texas at Dallas Director of Real Estate programs Randy Guttery suggests gathering comparable home values in a neighborhood before protesting an appraisal.
“The tax assessors have done a good job of making these comparables available on their website,” said Guttery.
Guttery said that with appraisals come good and bad news.
“Well, the value went up so you’re going to have to pay more in taxes,” said Guttery. “People like the idea of their house being worth more but they don’t like the idea of having to pay more in property taxes each year.”
The deadline to protest appraisal in most north Texas counties is mid may.
