DALLAS- WBAP/KLIF – Engineers say an additional seven million dollars is required in repairs to make the Dallas Margaret McDermott Pedestrian Bridge accessible by pedestrians. They say despite the 115 million dollars spent to build the pedestrian bridge, all cables must be replaced before it will be safe for pedestrians to access and use. Engineers say the cables vibrate too much with pedestrians on the bridge.
Dallas City Council Wednesday, by a 10 to 4 vote, to approve spending the seven million dollars to repair the bridge, but it’s going to ask the Trinity Park Conservancy to pay the tab. The city of Dallas may also sue either the engineering company or installer of the arches to help pay for the repairs. The bridge was completed in 2017 but has never been open with the safety issue.
