Caraway Apologizes to City of Dallas After Sentencing

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is apologizing to the city for accepting about half a million dollars worth of bribes.

This comes after he was sentenced Friday to four and a half years in federal prison.

Caraway joined our sister station, 1310 The Ticket, to deliver his message.

“I disappointed everybody. I know that,” Caraway said with George Dunham and Gordon Keith on The Musers. “I apologize personally and to everyone for all of the humiliation and embarrassment that I brought to the City of Dallas.”

Caraway said he accepts his punishment and believes the sentence is fair. He pleaded guilty to taking part in a corruption scandal that ultimately led to the downfall of Dallas County Schools.

Still, Caraway said upon reflection, he does not know how he got so deep into the scandal.

“There’s so much stuff going on that sometimes you just get so busy, you never know when the wrong thing is around you,” Caraway said. “If I had a crystal ball and would have only known, things would be different.”

Caraway does not have to report to prison until May 5th.
