Update at 4:20pm:
The driver of the truck was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon. The driver faces a charge of Failure to Maintain Proper Control. Grand Prairie Police believe the driver fell asleep prior to the truck going off the overpass.
Grand Prairie, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A tanker truck carrying milk left the roadway off the I-30 bridge in Grand Prairie early this morning around 4am, crashing on onto MacArthur Boulevard. The milk compartment did not rupture, but the tank carrying natural gas fueling the tanker spilled its load; the gas quickly dissipated into the atmosphere.
The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition.
Assistant Chief Bill Murphy with the Grand Prairie Fire Department says the driver was initially conscious and talking to police officer, but lost consciousness soon after they arrived to the scene. It’s not known what caused the accident. Chief Murphy says that there are no unusual curves on the bridge where the tanker went off. He also said that it appears that the driver was travelling at a high rate of speed. He will be questioned by police when he awakens and is able to talk.
Chief Murphy says MacArthur Boulevard remains closed as the Grand Prairie Fire Department works to clean up an oil spill from the crash.
