MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – If you got hit with the hail storm last night, local insurance agencies are telling people the best ways to go about it. Mark Hanna with Insurance Council of Texas said to make sure you have your policies in place and possibly lower deductible rates before a storm hits. “After a storm like we had last night, document everything, take pictures and contact your agent as quickly as possible,” Hanna said.
Hanna also warns North Texans about fraudulent contractors or ‘storm chasers’. “Minutes after the hail storm there were storm chasers circulating neighborhoods, these are people who may not be from the area , driving in trucks who are wanting a piece of your work,” Hanna said. “Stay away from them…our advice is to stay local and stick with the businesses that have been around for 20-30 years,” Hanna said.
Dallas State Farm Agent Ray Scott says State Farm received over 300 requests for home and auto repairs this morning.
“You want to get a few people to give you estimates…get two or three people to look at it and if there’s some repairs you can fix yourself do that until someone can get out there,” Scott said. He also tells people to keep your receipts and make sure you are giving business to legitimate contractors.
