Bardwell Police Chief, Firefighter Son Among Five Killed in Head-On-Crash in Ellis County

ENNIS COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – A North Texas police chief and his volunteer firefighter son are among five people killed in a head-on crash in Ellis County Sunday morning.

The crash claimed the lives of Chief Michael Spurgeon Sr., his son Michael Spurgeon Jr. and three other Ennis-area residents.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the accident two-car accident happened around 10:15 a.m. on Texas Route 34 near Bardwell, about 40 miles south of Dallas.

“For an undetermined reason, the white Dodge veered over into the east bound lane and struck the Crown Victoria almost head on,” said DPS Sergeant Sara Warren.

In a Facebook post, the Bardwell Volunteer Fire Department asked the public to pray for the families of the victims.
