CEDAR HILL (WBAP/KLIF) – State and local authorities are investigating the deaths of three people found inside a burned home in Cedar Hill.

According to city officials, the Cedar Hill Police Department responded to assist the Cedar Hill Fire Department on a Structure Fire at 705 Lovern Street early Thursday morning. When officers arrived, they saw heavy smoke and a fire at the multi-floor residence. Officers were able to assist two victims to safety from an upstairs window.

The city said late Thursday that the investigation has shifted from an initial fire to a criminal inquiry. The department’s investigative team is working in conjunction with the Cedar Hill Fire Department and State Fire Marshal’s arson investigators to determine the origin and cause of the fire, as well as any criminal elements. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the exact cause of death.

“Our heart goes out to the family and victims of this tragic incident,” said Interim Police Chief Rodney Thompson. “The heroism that our officers displayed to save the lives of the two victims who were able to get out of an upstairs window reinforces our commitment to public safety.”

Neighbors reported hearing loud sounds which they described as gunfire around the time the fire started.
