Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A Republican Texas lawmaker is proposing the Texas legislature to make it harder for people to lie when it comes to receiving “SNAP” food benefits.
Beaumont’s Dade Phelan [dayd fee-lin] proposed a bill to the legislature that would require a person’s Lone Star Card to have their name and photo on the front of it.
The Lone Star Card acts as a debit card for those needing food assistance and requires a pin, but has no other security measure in place.
If passed, the bill would have several exceptions, including for those over 65, who have been victims of domestic violence, or homeless.
