Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – A Texas congressman is warning of “dangerous precedent” as Democrats vigorously go after President Trump’s tax returns.

Rep. Kevin Brady of The Woodlands, the top republican on the House Ways and Means Committee said in the letter, “Using the tax code to access the returns is weaponizing the tax code for political purposes.”

Within the tax code is an obscure way for the committee to force the issue by requesting tax records of the president, or anyone. The committee could eventually make the records public, if they so choose.

Meantime, Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Austin said, “It’s time to act, citing Mr. Trump’s “entanglement with interests abroad and at home.”

The issue has long been high on the agenda for Democrats; the investigation now coming to fruition after regaining control of the house.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters, “The public overwhelmingly wants to see the president’s tax returns.”

President Trump tweeted his displeasure with Democrats pledge to investigate him.
