AUSTIN/DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott is calling on lawmakers in Washington to do their job and fund border security.
The governor tells The Rick Roberts Show on WBAP that Texas has to step up being a border state.
“We have a gathering of a caravan on our southern border, down near Eagle Pass, and the state of Texas is continuing to have to play a role making sure that we do a job that’s relegated to the United States government under the United States constitution,” Abbott said.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers is working toward a solution to both fund border security and avoid another partial government shutdown.
“I’m frustrated that Congress will not step up and do its job and fix a broken immigration system and secure our border. They gotta do it,” Abbott said.
A shutdown would go into effect if a funding deal is not reached by February 15th.
