MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF) – One Mesquite ISD student is dead and three others are hospitalized with minor injuries following a bus crash Wednesday afternoon.
Mesquite Police Officer Lt. Brian Parrish said the bus overturned on its side on the corner of Lawson and Cartwright. It was determined the bus hit a power line, causing the bus to catch fire. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
We know these citizens saved many lives tonight and we are deeply moved by and thankful for their heroic acts. But it is with a very heavy heart that we must confirm that today, we lost one student. 2/3

A total of 42 students were on board the bus. The bus driver was not seriously hurt.
“Obviously this is a very upsetting situation so we are just worried about making sure those kids are okay and we are emotionally supporting them,” Laura Jobe with Mesquite ISD said.
The district said Wednesday evening that counselors would be made available for students.
