A Labor Day Republican Rally in McKinney

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Collin County Republican Party hosted a Labor Day Campaign Rally in Mckinney today.  The city’s Cotton Mill was the backdrop for some big political names, hundreds of people showing support for the Republican Party, and just about everyone singing along to the hit song “God Bless Texas.”

Senator Ted Cruz, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Governor Greg Abbott spoke at the event hosted by the Republican party of Collin County. Texas Republican leaders encouraged Texans to vote this November. With an energized Democratic party, Governor Greg Abbott said it’s more important than ever to vote. “Texas exceptionalism is under threat, under assault over the next two months by liberals who are trying to oppose a socialistic policy”, said Abbott.

Senator Ted Cruz addressed recent comments by his opponent, Beto O’ Rourke, saying “there’s nothing more American than protesting the national anthem.” Cruz said, “I can think of some things more American. How about all the millions of soldiers and sailors and airmen and Marines who have fought and bled and died to protect that flag.”

Cruz stressed the importance of getting to the polls in November, adding that his race will be dependent on “turnout.” Cruz said he’s hopeful his Democratic opponent for U.S Senate will debate him before the November election. According to Cruz he was prepared to debate Beto O’Rourke Friday in Dallas but O’Rourke decided not to come. Speaking more about O’ Rourke, Cruz said, “He still hasn’t accepted even a single debate. And so we’ll see if in between flying out to be on Ellen if he can make any time for a debate. I certainly look forward to it.” Polls show Cruz is slightly ahead of O’ Rourke.

Michael Opatraugh is a Collin County voter and says he’s grateful for recent support for Cruz from President Trump. Another Collin County voter said he’s not worried about talks of a blue wave in Texas. “I look at the way the President is handling things right now. I don’t even see a competition now.”
