Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The jury in the murder trial of former Balch Springs Police officer Roy Oliver has begun its second of deliberations.
Oliver faces life in prison if convicted of killing an unarmed teen last year.
Officers had been dispatched to reports of underage drinking at a party. 15-year old Jordan Edwards was in a car full of teens leaving the party.
Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata talked to WBAP/KLIF News about the potential outcome of the trial.
“I hope the jury comes to a fair and just decision. As far as what happens afterwards, I hope the public respects whatever the decision is of the jury.”
Oliver testified on his own behalf, saying that he fired his weapon, fearing that his partner was going to be hit by the car. His partner testified that he didnt’ feel that he was in danger.
A former FBI excessive force expert testified that there was no justification for the shooting.
