WESTWOOD ONE – (WBAP/KLIF) – Called an American hero by many citizens, Senator John McCain passed away at 4:28 pm, with his wife and family at his side, after a long battle with a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer.
The naval bomber pilot, prisoner of war, conservative maverick, giant of the Senate, twice-beaten presidential candidate and abrasive American hero served his nation for more than sixty years.
Asked how he wanted to be remembered, McCain said, “He served his country, and not always right — made a lot of mistakes, made a lot of errors — but served his country, and, I hope we could add, honorably”.
