TEMPLE – (WBAP/KLIF) – U S Senator Ted Cruz is locked in a potentially closer than expected re-election battle with Democratic challenger Beto O Rourke, and says he’d welcome President Trump visiting Texas before November. Cruz insists he doesn’t need anyone’s coattails to win.
Trump has traveled extensively to boost congressional Republicans around the nation. Should a trip to Texas be on the futures list, it’d be the latest twist for Cruz and Trump, whose ups and downs have made them one of the top odd couples in all of politics.
A joint Trump-Cruz rally could also reassure some Texans still angry at their Senator for clashing with Trump during the presidential primary, and refusing to endorse Trump in the convention afterward. Cruz did eventually back Trump.
