FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF] – Currently 10 states prohibit the use of the red light cameras and Governor Gregg Abbott thinks Texas should too.
Abbott tweeted that there is no evidence red light cameras lead to improvements in safety. However, Doug Wiersig Director of Fort Worth’s Transportation Center said Fort Worth has 58 cameras at 44 of the busiest intersections and studies show they have reduced accidents by about 58%.
Wiersig said the money they receive for the violations pay for the cameras and the rest goes towards the state trauma fund and programs to promote road safety.
He said the cameras are a good thing, they change the way people drive.
