The Federal Trade Commission Warns Consumers About Robocalls

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Federal Trade Commission is warning consumers about scams that include threatening tactics that scare consumers into sending money. The FTC reports the scam might be a text, an email, or phone call (listen to an example below).  Experienced scammers may even have personal information like your social security number, and / or make threats of arrest or legal action.

According to the Federal Trade Commission’s website, there are scams involving all types of things; including government imposters, tech support, fake emergencies, vacation rentals, credit card processing, fake prizes, lottery & sweepstakes winnings, victim compensations, weight loss, and the list goes on and on.

So what should you do if you receive or have received a call like this? The FTC advises: hang up, do not push any buttons, never send money, do not give out personal information, and report the activity to the FTC. For more information on the latest scams, you can visit www.ftc.gov and click on scams.
