Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas couple who was among several random victims allegedly robbed at gunpoint by a group of teens nearly two weeks ago is fighting to have them tried as adults.
A juvenile court hearing on the matter happened Thursday for the six 13-to-16 year olds.
Thomas Castro, Dallas Police Chief over the Criminal Investigations Division told WBAP/KLIF that the police have done their part on the matter.
“When it comes prosecuting them as adults that’ll be up to the courts to certify them. My detectives gather all of the information, put the information forward and that information is presented to prosecutors.”
The East Oak Cliff couple — Garrett and Caroline Scharton — are leading the effort after reportedly falling victim to the six juvenile’s alleged armed crime spree as they walked their dog on July 22. Caroline Scharton told reporters outside the courtroom Thursday, It’s an adult crime. You don’t do heinous, horrible, violent, criminal acts and expect not to get charged for them.”

Deputy Chief Castro said one thing seems clear about the case.
“In this specific case, they committed 4 robberies in a pretty short span, so I mean yeah that was their motive … to go out and target folks and see what items or money they could get.”
The judge in the case has not indicated when she will rule on the matter.
