
Richardson, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Richardson I-S-D will be canceling classes on election day this year because of potential safety concerns.
An e-mail was sent out ot parents yesterday, citing the large number of people entering schools to vote, noting the thousands of people who come and go at schools on Election Day.
A pre-schedule staff development day will going on as planned on November 6; students will be off, and will not have to make up the day.
The issue of making Election Day student holidays had come up in past among the Richardson ISD board of trustees.
Meantime, earlier this year, two students at Richardson High School were detained after making threats against the school in the days after the shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school, though the e-mail to parents did not specifically reference recent school shootings and other incidents.
