Communities Around the Metroplex Are Seeking Back-to-School Supply Donations

(National Calendar Day website)

Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – August is National Back-to-School Month which brings with it a big push for back-to-school supplies.

As summer vacation soon ends for school kids around the metroplex, many communities are asking for school supply donations. Arlington is among them, as the city’s Parks and Recreation Department partners, for it’s 8th year with Mission Arlington to collect schools supplies for Arlington ISD students.

Maria Campbell, Aquatics Manager says it’s a way for the city to “give back, as well as raise awareness of the many aquatics programs offered by the department.

She says city residents are always very generous with donations.

“We usually have quite a bit. Mission Arlington usually drops off a big bucket or container that we fill several times throughout the supply drive.”

Meantime, Tillie Burgin, Executive Director of Mission Arlington tells us that there are a number of items needed, from pencils and markers, to ziplock bags, paper towels, and tissue. See complete list here.

She says it’s been a labor of love for the mission which celebrates 32 years of service today, August 1, 2018.

“So we like to think about 32 years of being is service to people who have needs, and special needs, and one of those of those special needs of course is helping kids get back to school with school supplies.”

She says underprivileged kids may not otherwise have school supplies without their help. Last year 10,000 children were served.

Elsewhere in the community, City of Allen residents are invited to ‘fill the bus’ with school supplies for low income students through August 7th.
