Texas Firefighters on Wildfire Line Hope Rain Will Tap “The 259”.

DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – The officially-named “259 Fire” has burned 1700 acres, but is now 100% contained. With both the promise – and threat of rain forecast in the fire area, roughly between San Angelo and Waco, firefighters are hoping for what forecasters predict, and not additional lightening strikes which could renew the firefight.

National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Godwin – as of Friday evening – predicts an average half inch of rain to fall on the wildfire area, and most of that, late Monday.  As for the possibility of lightening strikes to worsen the fire, it all depends upon whether showers or thunderstorms develop in that area just southwest of the Metroplex.

Areas in the metros could see a half inch of rain, with greater amounts expected as the crow flies in a northeast direction from DFW.  Godwin says areas like Paris could see as much as an inch of rain. With Texas bone dry, and drought conditions feeding wildfires across the Lone Star State, rainfall itself will be welcomed by those battling to keep these fires in check.
