STOP THE SMOKE: North Texas Program Designed to Inform Drivers with Excessive Vehicle Smoke

FORT WORTH (WBAP/ KLIF) – Next time you see smoke coming out of someone’s cars, you can do something about it.

All you need to do is contact the Regional Smoking Vehicle Program, provide the license plate number, time and location and they will take care of it.

Brian Wilson with the program said they will send the driver a letter notifying them about their car and will give them a list of options on how to take care of it.

Wilson said if the driver is qualified and meets income guidelines he/she can get up to $600 to repair any damages.

By reporting anonymously, you can be a part of eliminating excessive smoke in our environment.

Wilson said driving a vehicle that emits smoke for more than 10 seconds, is a violation of the state’s Smoking Vehicle Statute.

If Law Enforcement sees your smoking vehicle they may issue citations of up to $1,000.
