DeSoto, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Eighteen year old Destiny Brannon was crowned valedictorian at DeSoto High School this year, but recently found out the title belongs to another student due to a miscalculation by the district.
Almost a month after graduation, the mistake was confirmed and a classmate formerly at number four in the class, was moved to number one.
In Texas, a student who graduates as valedictorian from a school accredited by the Texas Education Agency, can get their first year of tuition waived at a public college or university in the state.
Congratulations to DeSoto ISD Valedictorian Destiny Brannon and Salutatorian Gloria Akinnibosun for finishing their senior year as the top performing students in the Class of 2018. pic.twitter.com/O2wji0Nhor
