FORT WORTH, TX (WBAP/KLIF NEWS) – A Fort Worth college baseball coach and former Major League pitcher is getting shelled for turning down a high school player from Colorado.
Texas Wesleyan coach Mike Jeffcoat reportedly turned down the Denver-area player in an email, writing that he no longer recruits players from Colorado.
18-year-old Aurora, Colorado high school senior Gavin Bell said he’d been contacting colleges about possible recruitment and Former Major League Baseball pitcher and Texas Wesleyan University coach Mike Jeffcoat responded by email that Colorado players have had trouble passing the Fort Worth school’s drug test.
He then wrote the player can “thank your liberal politicians.” Colorado voters passed a law allowing recreational marijuana for adults.
“The comments Mike Jeffcoat made are in no way a reflection of Texas Wesleyan University,” said University President, Fred Slabach. “We do not discriminate because a student is from a state with different public policy than Texas.”
Slabach said Jeffcoat was fired because of the email combined with allegations against Jeffcoat regarding eligibility of players.
