South Lake Carroll, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – More and more North Texas students are voicing concern about school safety in the wake of recent school shootings.
Katie Silverman is a student at Southlake Carroll High School and used to go to school in Parkland, Florida. She told those gathered for a SLC school board meeting last night, that “see something, say something” needs to be taken more seriously. She also urged school officials not to arm teachers with guns.
“I do want to make a personal plea to the school board, please, please, please do not arm our teachers. SWAT teams do not know the difference between the good guy with a gun and a bad guy with a gun. They as teachers are there to teach and we as students are there to learn, that’s it.”
Other students asked school officials to take seriously what they had to say saying, mass shootings are being carried out by students targeting other students.
Several students made comments about school safety in this Facebook live post:
Dallas ISD is hosting a community forum this morning where teachers, students, and parents will discuss school safety. A handful of students at Shepton High School in Plano staged a walkout yesterday.
