PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – Students at a North Texas High School are asking that their voices be heard regarding gun violence in schools.

The ninth and tenth graders at Shepton High School staged a walkout Monday on the school’s tennis courts calling for more gun laws and better security at schools. The walk out came nearly two weeks after 17 people were shot dead inside a Florida High School.Sophomore Katie Diebel said students can’t stand to see another school shooting like the one in Parkland, Florida.

“Imagine the people around you getting shot,” said Diebel. “Imagine not being able to see them. That happened in Florida.”

Students encouraged one another to reach out to their state and local leaders to push for change. Students at high schools across the country have staged other lockouts since the Florida shooting.
