(DALLAS)WBAP/KLIF- Atmos Energy is beginning to allow residents of a Northwest Dallas Neighborhood to return home after an explosion killed a 12-year-old girl Friday morning.
Jennifer Altieri with Atmos Energy says that close to 300 families were displaced and while they can return to their home, gas has been shut off and it could take 7-10 days to restore gas service.
12-year old Linda Rogers died from injuries related to the home explosion in Northwest Dallas at 3523 Espanola Drive near Love Field.
According to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans, when crews arrived to the scene family members were observed holding the girl and asking for help. They immediately began to administer CPR before she was transported to Children’s Medical where she died.
DART is assisting DFR with voluntary evacuations of the area while crews investigate a possible gas leak. Spokesman Morgan Lyons says two buses are providing cover and a warm place for neighboring residents to be.
Two other fires were reported one block over on Wednesday and Thursday.
