Dallas Councilman Calls for NRA to Move Convention; NRA Responds: We’re Already Here

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Pro-tem Dwaine Caraway is calling for the National Rifle Association to hold its convention, scheduled in Dallas, somewhere else following last week’s school shooting in Florida.

Caraway says it is time to pressure the group to meet with lawmakers about more gun laws.

“Writing them a letter, making a phone call is not enough,” Caraway said. “They’ve had enough communication. They’ve been given enough opportunity.”

The NRA, meanwhile, says they in no way will move the convention out of Dallas.

NRA TV host Grant Stinchfield says the NRA is already in the city.

“We are the policemen, and firemen, and executives, and lawyers and factory workers. There are literally tens of thousands of NRA members already here,” Stinchfield said.

Stinchfield says perhaps Caraway does not understand the opportunity Dallas has with 80,000 NRA members coming in with the economic and safety impact.

“This will be the safest city in America,” Stinchfield said.

The Convention is planned for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in May.
