Gov. Abbott Calls for a Change in Investigating Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Elected Officials

(WBAP/KLIF) – Texas’ top leader has called for a change in the way investigations into sexual misconduct complaints against elected officials are handled. Texas Governor Greg Abbott proposed Tuesday the idea of calling in the state’s lead law enforcement agency.

Abbott wants the Texas Rangers to handle sexual misconduct complaints against lawmakers, or any elected official. As of now, sexual harassment allegations in the Legislature are reported to state Senate and House leadership, which some have said can make lawmakers hesitant to punish the people they work with. Abbott said letting the Texas Rangers handle complaints would assure allegations are taken seriously.

The change in policy would have to be approved by the state legislature.
