COLLIN COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – If you haven’t registered to vote in the March primaries yet, you’d better do it soon.
The deadline to register is on Monday.
The Collin County Elections Office Bruce Sherbet said voters shouldn’t blow the primaries off.
“It’s the vetting of the candidates for the parties to put on the November ballot and the voters get a chance to make that decision. There’s competition on this ballot. There’s open seats on this ballot,” he said.
According to the United States Election Project, about 7 percent of Texans cast ballots in the Democratic primary and 14 percent of adults cast ballots in the Republican primary in the 2016 elections.
Sherbet said this is an election voters would not want to miss.
“We have a Congressional seat open. We have a Senate seat open with no incumbents running for them. So, you have decisions that need to be made in the primary to determine whose going to be on the November ballot,” he said.
Elections offices across North Texas are predicting a higher voter turnout at this year’s midterms.
Sherbet said if you don’t register, you may still be able to fill out a provisional ballot next month.
