SAN ANTONIO(WBAP/KILF)-Original cannons from the battle of the Alamo are back in San Antonio after an extensive cleaning.
Texas A&M lab techs used electrolytic reduction to remove the layers of paint and corrosion that accumulated on the cannons over the last several years. Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush says the improvements are just part of a multi-million dollar effort to preserve history at the Alamo and across the state.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure that these scared 300-year-old artifacts stand for at least another 300 years as this shrine will continue to be a place where 1836 lives.”
The Alamo hopes to raise $50,000 for cannon improvements.
