Dallas City Council to Discuss Possible Housing Plan

DALLAS (KLIF/WBAP) – Dallas City Councilmembers will get the first look at a comprehensive set of maps that will be used to figure out a new housing plan for the city.

It’s called a “market value analysis,” or MVA. Several cities across the country, and two others in Texas, have used an MVA to create and implement a housing plan.

The idea is to identify areas that can be rehabilitated, and to identify areas that may be better off starting from scratch.

The group that’s putting together the plan took several things into consideration: the median cost of homes in Dallas, the cost of rent, how much blight there is, how many vacant houses and apartments there are, and how many in our area own a home as opposed to rent.

The maps will be presented to city council at Wednesday’s meeting, then several public meetings will take place.

Official dates for those meetings haven’t been announced. But officials say the meetings will take place through the end of February.

Producer Robyn Geske stopped by with more on what the group looked at and took into consideration.
