Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Some local officials are calling it “pure politics” after the Texas Transportation Commission voted to eliminate a 1.8-billion dollar expansion of I-635 from the state’s 2018 budget.
Governor Greg Abbot told commissioners last year to nix the project, along with proposed work on I-35 in Austin. Both projects involved adding new toll roads.
The Dallas Morning News reports, the plan called for 10.8 miles of roadway in Dallas, Garland and Mesquite to have both free and tolled lanes.
The publication quotes Garland Mayor Douglas Athas who said, “A few people financed by a few people are holding up things across the state over and over and over again.”
@Douglas Athas made addition comments in a Twitter post:
More bad news today. Full funding and permission to start the procurement process for IH-635 East is stuck… https://t.co/hcEgAwBTls
