RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF News) – A public search party started its own effort on Tuesday afternoon to look for a Richardson toddler who vanished over a week ago.
The group organized through social media and searched for three-year-old Sherin Mathews in a wooded area near Richland College.
It’s the same area where Richland police, Mansfield police and the FBI searched earlier that day.
This man is friends with the Mathews family and said they’ve searched the same area before.
“We kind of found some things that kind of look kind of suspicious but we came out here again. Now, it’s daylight and we can kind of see a little bit better. Hopefully, we can see if anything has been messed with yet,” he said.
The man said it’s good to see the community pitching in to find Sherin.
“We’ve been searching in the fields today. We’ve got a couple of people out here helping us out,” he said.
Sherin was last seen when her father, Wesley Mathews, put her outside alone at 3 a.m. as punishment for not finishing her milk.
He was arrested on a child endangerment charge and is now out on bond.
Police placed Mathews on an ankle monitor and confiscated his passport.
