DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – President Trump’s comments about NFL players deserving to be fired if they take a knee during the National Anthem have drawn feedback from professional athletes across the country.
Over 200 National Football League players chose to take a knee during the anthem at Sunday night. Athletes in other sports have taken to social media to criticize Trump for his comments.
Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle said he supports his players decision regarding any possible protests.
“We support them 100 percent whenever they decide to do. My understand is that they’re going to talk about it. They’re going to decide as a team what the best course of action is if there is a course of action,” he said.
Veteran Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said he’s disappointed by the divisiveness in the United States.
“Disappointing times…it’s almost 2018 you’d hope stuff like that wouldn’t be in the news anymore…wouldn’t be an issue. It’s tough times, I think for everyone, a divisive time and we got to promote love,” he said.
The regular season begins October 17th.
