DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas Police Department has a new police chief and she’s making history.
City Manager T.C. Broadnax announced that U.Renee Hall is the first female police chief in Dallas.
Hall said she has the experience and leadership needed to be successful as Chief.
“This job is about skill. It’s about the ability to lead. It’s about the ability to boost morale. It’s about the ability to fight crime. To engage the community. It’s about bringing city that needs to heal together as a whole. I bring that,” she said.
Hall stressed that leading the department is about ability not gender.
“Historically, police work was done by men but so were many other professions throughout the world,” she said.
Since the announcement, many leaders in Dallas have issued their support of the new chief.

Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said she welcomes Hall.
“I am proud that she is joining me and Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez on the growing list of females in top law enforcement positions in Dallas County. We are grateful for the service and leadership of the six other candidates, and I know this was a tough decision for City Manager T.C. Broadnax. There is much work to be done building bridges between law enforcement and our communities, and I am looking forward to all of us working together to ensure success.”
Hall’s start date is September 5th. Her salary is set at $225,000 a year. She is replacing David Brown, who resigned last year.
David Pughes has been acting as interim chief.
