Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas Police detective has received the Theodore Roosevelt Award in honor of his recovery from an injury in the line of duty. Detective Edmundo Lujan was hit by a suspect’s car in November of 2015.
Lujan underwent several surgeries and returned to duty last August.
“Whatever strength God gave me, I did it,” Lujan says. “It hurts every day, but I’m just very fortunate to be here with you.”
Lujan is the 19th recipient of the award in Dallas. The Theodore Roosevelt Award is given to officers across the country who have “overcome an adversity, whether injury, illness or other disability” to return to work.
“We’ve experienced a lot of adversity, especially recently,” says Interim Dallas Police Chief David Pughes. “But officers continue to come to work and do the job.”
