Arlington (WBAP/KLIF News) – The University of Texas at Arlington has removed signs from campus posted by a group called Vanguard America.
The signs read, “A notice to all White Americans: It is you civic duty to report any and all illegal aliens to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They are criminals. America is a White nation.”
“I hope nobody catches them putting those fliers up because it probably wouldn’t good for them,” one student said as he walked to class Tuesday morning.
UT-Arlington says it removed the signs Monday because any posters must be approved by the Office of Student Activities and Organizations. The university put out a statement saying it expects “high standards of civil discourse.”
US News and World Report ranked UT-Arlington the fifth most diverse college in the nation in 2015. Of the school’s 55,000 students, UT-Arlington says 25 percent are Hispanic, 15 percent are African American and ten percent are Asian.
“I’ve been here more than two years, and I’ve never experienced any kind of violence or any kind of inequality against me,” a student from El Salvador said.
Many students say they never saw the signs and only heard about them when they started seeing friends post pictures on facebook.
“Ignorance, it’s just kind of disheartening to know there are some people around here who think like that,” the student walking to class said.
Last week, students voted to become a “sanctuary campus,” hoping the school would stop honoring detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Earlier this year, President Vistasp Karbhari said the school could not risk losing state and federal funding.
