Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF News) – Seven thousand people are expected to attend the fourth annual Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival this weekend. The event started with a barbecue showdown and opening celebration Thursday night. The Main Event follows Friday.
“We do it to showcase the city, but we’re also a non-profit,” says Director Julie Eastman. “We raise money for culinary scholarships for students.”
The festival has raised $125,000 over the past four years.
Events will take place at Panther Island Pavilion and the Pier One Imports building. Friday, workers were unloading wine from trucks in front of the building.
More than 100 wines are being offered at the event. Chefs from 15 restaurants will prepare dishes.
“We encourage all executive chefs or owners to be here, so you really get to meet the people behind the chef coat,” Eastman says. “A lot of times, they want to know who they’re next to because they might try to work together on some things. It’s fun when they get that involved.”
