Study: Buffalo Wings the Top DFW Food Preference Around St. Patrick’s Day

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — People celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the Metroplex tend to have different holiday food cravings than the rest of the country.

GrubHub released a study showing which foods get ordered more than usual both on the holiday and the day after. In Dallas-Fort Worth, the food that spikes the most over this holiday is buffalo wings,  ordered 316% more often than normal.

Buffalo wings are not even in the Top 10 on the national list.

“I think the theme of recovery food definitely spreads across the nation,” said Kaitlyn Carl, a food trend expert. “But what people actually turn to is a little bit different.”

The food that gets ordered the most nationally over St. Patrick’s day is, fittingly, the corned beef sandwich, followed by a Reuben, barbecue bacon burger, and mushroom pizza.

The Top 10 list for DFW is vastly different. After buffalo wings, No. 2 on the list is tiramisu, which is ordered 258% more than usual over St. Patrick’s Day. After that, in order, is beef & broccoli, chicken lo mein, vegetable samosa, garlic knots, and the California roll.

“I was expecting definitely those heartier dishes like buffalo wings, beef & broccoli, lo mein to spike on the list because people are on a little bit of a recovery mode following St. Patrick’s Day,” Carl said, referencing how people tend to drink more on the holiday.

She did say, however, that tiramisu coming in at No. 2 was a total surprise.

“It looks like Dallas may have a little bit of a sweet tooth,” she said.
