PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – Residents who love to walk and jog in Plano can breathe a little easier.
Plano Animal Services said a stray dog that has bitten almost a dozen residents has been captured.
The department’s director Jamey Cantrell said the dog is part of a duo, also known as Bonnie and Clyde, that has been running loose throughout the city since May of 2016.
He said he got a tip that the dogs were laying between two houses. He rushed to the scene and managed to capture Bonnie, an Australian cattle dog, but Clyde got away.
He said right now, Bonnie is under a stray hold.
“We have to hold her and make sure no one is going to come and claim ownership. After that, she’ll be evaluated and we’ll see what other options we can identify for her. For our shelter, euthanasia is always a last resort,” said Cantrell.
There’s still looking for Clyde but Cantrell said residents shouldn’t worry too much about him. He said Bonnie is the one responsible for bites that ranged from scratches to wounds that required stitches.
“He has never been involved in any of the reports of people who were bitten. It’s always been this dog that has been implicated. So, we don’t feel that he is as big a threat as she was,” he said.
Cantrell said he thinks that the dogs were dumped in Plano by their previous owner. They’re still looking for Clyde. He is a white Labrador-sized dog with distinctive black spots over both eyes.
